Series Editor
Art in General
New York, New York

Description:

Art in General seeks a professional editor for a series of six small hybrid artist book/ publications between June – September, 2010.

As part of its New Commissions program, Art in General produces a publication for each artist’s project and work. All publications are approximately 100-120 pages in length with at least 20 images documenting the commissioned work and the exhibition at Art in General. The publications also include a critical text by a guest curator, critic or scholar in the field, which is often the first writing about an artist’s work in his or her career (approx 2000-3000 words). Additional texts include a forward (800 words) and a curator’s introduction (1500 words).

Art in General’s New Commissions Program centers on developing and exhibiting new and challenging projects by emerging artists who are interested in creating new work.  Art in General commissions visual artists to create new projects in any medium or form—from painting to sculpture to performance to video to other, perhaps undefined, types of art or interdisciplinary work, and we work closely with artists with studio or post-studio practice, and help them to develop their work from idea to final form.

The New Commissions book series documents, expands and contextualizes the work of the commissioned artist. Each publication is created in close collaboration with the artist and is often seen as a conceptual extension of the artist’s project.

Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Curator and working closely with the project Designer, Communications Manager, the series editor will be responsible for the manuscript editing and one round of proofing for each publication.
